ALPHA PARTICLE SPARK DETECTOR 512110 • Gives clearly visible and audible response to alpha radiation • D emonstrates the ionization of air by alpha particles • D etects alpha radiation from radioactive minerals • Allows for exciting new physics lab exercises W hen alpha particles ionize the air in the spark gap of the detector, bright sparks can be both seen and heard. The transparent lid of the enclosure allows for observation from several directions. The detector connects to a safe high voltage supply like the Frederiksen 367060. Normal operating voltage lies between 2 and 5 kV. The unit can be placed directly on the table. The included threaded steel rod allows mounting in normal stand material. Lab activities Alpha radiation from naturally occurring minerals Properties of alpha radiation: Range in air.
